Satellite tracking update 10/02/2020

Exciting news from our two tagged snipe! In the last two weeks they have both left the ACT and starting migrating northwards. ELF64 has stopped off in the Lake Saint Clair region north-west of Newcastle. The last fix was February 5, and the bird had moved a bit around that area in the previous 6 days. All fixes have come from small farm dams that look to be on private land.

ELF59 has made a surprise move by migrating through (or over) the Pilliga forest in northern NSW and onto Gwydir wetlands. Its last fix was on February 8 in the northern wetlands area. For those of you with good memories, this is a very similar path and stopover location our tagged bird Tsubasa took back in 2017. Hopefully, we have more luck with 59 and it continues onward from Gwydir (where we lost the signal from Tsubasa back in late February 2017).
