Organisations

A vast number of organisations have been, and continue to be a part of the Latham’s Snipe Project. The key ones are listed here but many others have contributed from time-to-time since the project started in 2014.

South Beach Wetlands and Landcare Group

South Beach Wetlands and Landcare Group was a founding member of the Latham’s Snipe Project. It is based in Port Fairy has been working to protect local habitats and their inhabitants since 1999 including revegetation, survey and reducing the impacts of proposed developments. The group includes a diverse range of people who live in or are connected to Port Fairy.

Woodlands and Wetlands Trust

The Woodlands and Wetlands Trust through Lori Gould was integral to extending the Latham’s Snipe Project into the ACT. The Trust manages the Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary and the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve, collectively protecting over 600 hectares of the Australian Capital Territory’s most significant landscapes. Latham’s Snipe are a regular visitor at Jerrabomberra wetlands and the Trust, together with the Latham’s Snipe Project, have snipe as a focal species for conservation management at the wetlands. The Trust has funded a number of snipe initiatives.

Tasmanian Land Conservancy

The Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) is a new partner to the Latham’s Snipe Project, spear headed by the efforts of Dr Cath Dickson and Dr David Hamiton. TLC is a not-for-profit that is custodian of significant biodiversity reserves in Tasmania. One of these, Silver Plains in central Tasmania, will be the focal site for a new ecological investigation into higher altitude forest and marshland Latham’s Snipe habitat.
